Position Description

Humanitri, a Lutheran not-for-profit organization, is hiring a Family Support Specialist to work with families facing homelessness.

Family Support Specialist (FSS) is responsible for preparing clients for self-sufficiency through housing permanency, life-skills development, and coordinated referrals. FSS is tasked with implementing individualized Client Service Plans developed with clients. FSS connects clients with community support services, persists with coordinated referrals with parenting and employment partners, and empowers clients to achieve goals established in Client Service Plan. Guided by the Client Service Plan, the FSS will design and implement goal-directed interventions during weekly, in-home sessions and document clients’ progress toward individualized goals and program outcomes. Interventions will utilize Motivational Interviewing and other techniques to build client motivation and skill in managing self, household and relationships. FSS will hold a caseload of 20 families, maintaining a goal-centered approach to service delivery to move families forward in the midst of multiple stressors and crises.

The position is full time, salaried. Candidate must have dependable transportation, be willing to work in client homes, and be available to work occasional evenings and weekends. Candidate must engage comfortably with the client population, landlords, and the justice system.


Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field
3+ years experience in case management, homelessness or other social services preferred
Ability to engage and work with landlords, community agencies and programs
Ability to mediate and negotiate with landlords, clients, collaborators and colleagues
Strong inter-personal communication and public speaking ability
Ability to follow and meet grant requirements
Reliable transportation required
